Durga Puja is an important Hindu festival in which the goddess of
power Durga or Shakti is worshiped. It is celebrated over nine days
and last six days religious ceremony are held over Mahalaya,
Shashthi, Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, Maha Nabami and Dashmi. On
the last day of Dashmi the Durga is taken in procession and then
immersed in the Sea.
Over last few years Durga Puja festival has gained in popularity in
Mumbai. Though it is mainly associted with the Bengali community but
lot of non- Bengali also take part in it. Some of the popular spot
where Durga puja is celebrated are Shivaji park, Vashi, Chembur,
Juhu and Lokhandwala complex.
